GONE Fishing Multiplayer — 1-8 Player Co-op

How GONE Fishing co-op works: 1-8 player online lobbies, what is shared versus personal, how the heart revive works, and crossplay and local co-op status.

Is GONE Fishing multiplayer?

Yes. Steam lists GONE Fishing as single-player, multi-player and online co-op, and the store page describes it as a 1-8 player survival horror game. You can play alone, and the game is balanced for it, but the co-op loop is the reason most people buy it.

What Steam does not list is a local (couch) co-op mode or crossplay. Neither has been announced, and neither appears in the store’s feature list — so the honest answer for both is “not confirmed, plan on online PC co-op.”

What is shared and what is personal

This is the distinction that decides whether your group has a good session, and it is not obvious in-game:

Thing Shared? Why it matters
Gold Shared One player can fund another’s rod upgrade
Totems Shared buff One Leviathan buffs the whole lobby
Line, rod, sinker Personal Everyone must upgrade their own gear
Perks Personal Each player picks two before the run
Fish inventory Personal Each player carries their own catch

The practical consequence: pool gold for totems, because the buff applies to everyone. Do not pool gold for rods, because a rod upgrade only helps the player holding it.

How many players can join?

Eight. The lobby supports up to eight, and the game adjusts its economy for it — the price of totems scales with the number of players, so an eight-player group does not get eight players’ worth of totem power for one player’s price.

The important balance decision is the quota. The lake’s hunger scales with the day count, and a group of eight can meet a quota that would take a solo player several more days to reach. That is the entire trade: more players means faster quotas, but also louder cabins and more people to revive.

How revives work

A downed teammate can be brought back with a heart. The heart is a catchable item; sacrifice it at the altar and in multiplayer the flames turn purple and one fallen teammate is revived. This is a shared resource, so a group should decide early who holds the spare heart.

Solo players use the same item differently: sacrificing a heart gives you one chance to cheat death. That solo extra life is lost if you leave the game, so it needs re-arming each session.

What changes with a group

  • Quotas come faster. More rods in the water means more fish per day, so the day count climbs sooner than a solo run.
  • The cabin is louder. Several of the hostile creatures track footsteps and voice. A large group is easier to hear, which changes how the night goes.
  • Bait distribution matters. One player should run the minnow trap and the bait route while others fish. Splitting roles is far more efficient than eight people fishing the same dock.
  • The trader visit becomes a decision. With shared gold, the group has to agree on what gets bought. The answer is almost always totems first.
  • Reviving is a real strategy. Two players who can reach each other are worth more than two players fishing alone.

Is there local co-op?

No local or split-screen mode has been announced. The game is built around an online lobby with a server browser, and the Steam feature list shows online co-op only.

Is there crossplay?

Not confirmed. There is only one platform, Steam on Windows, so crossplay has no meaning yet — there is nothing to cross. If a console version ships later, crossplay becomes a real question and this page will be updated with the answer.

Does the game have a demo?

A demo existed during Early Access. If you want to try the loop before buying, check the Steam store page for the current demo status rather than trusting a third-party download site.

  • Platforms — what co-op is available on
  • Totems — the upgrade a group should always buy together
