GONE Fishing Bait Guide — All 58 Baits Ranked
All 58 GONE Fishing baits ranked by bait score, from Worm at 15 to Troll ragdoll at 86, with spawn spots, species coverage and the legendary threshold.
What is the best bait in GONE Fishing?
There is no single best bait — bait score decides which fish can bite, and the fish you want depends on the day. What does scale predictably is the score itself: Worm sits at 15 and Troll ragdoll at 86, and legendary bites only start around 175 once you stack totems, beer and day count on top of the bait.
The table below ranks all 58 baits by bait score, with the catch count and species spread each one has actually produced.

How bait score actually works
Bait score is a threshold, not a quality rating. The game picks a fish, then checks whether your total bait score reaches that species’ floor. Total score is the bait’s own value plus your modifiers:
- Beer adds to the score and to fish weight — the shop sells it for a reason.
- Day count scales your results the longer a run survives.
- Leviathan’s totem multiplies bait score, weight and point value together.
- Difficulty adds a weight bonus on Jeremy Wade.
That is why the same Worm that farms Perch on day 2 can pull a Sturgeon on day 30 — the bait did not change, the stack behind it did.
Bait tiers
Tier 1 — Always available (score 15-24)
Worm (15), Cockroach (16), Mouse (17), Ant (20), Beetle (20), Lizard (21), Bull Frog (24). Worms are the single most used bait in the game with 120,604 recorded catches, because they spawn the moment you step outside the cabin. Frog is the upgrade: easy to find near any cabin, and it clears the score floor for the starter pond species.
Tier 2 — Common small game (score 25-40)
Egg (25), Chopped Bait Small (25), Minnow (28), Dart (28), Glizzy (28), Spider (30), Leaf Tailed Gecko (30), Iguana (30), Tarantula (33), Scorpion (35), Crab (35), Squirrel (36), Rat (38), Snake (38), Desert Scorpion (39), Chopped Bait Medium (40).
Minnow is the standout: it spawns infinitely from a fish trap, so it is the one bait you never have to farm by hand. Spider and Rat are the cave staples and carry the widest species spread in this tier.
Tier 3 — Mid game (score 42-59)
Turtle (42), Cassowary (45), Beaver (45), Bat (45), Croc Bait (46), Armadillo (46), Ant Eater (50), Rabbit (50), Capybara (51), Chopped Bait Large (55), Puffin (55), Desert Turtle (55), Raccoon (58), Shoe Bill (59).
This is where the map asymmetry shows up: Cassowary and Capybara are Jungle-only spawns, Desert Turtle and Komodo are Arctic/Canyon, so your tier three pool depends on where you are standing.
Tier 4 — High value (score 60-72)
Gorilla (60), Baby Seal (62), Tapir (62), Komodo (65), Seal (68), Baby Penguin (68), Croc Ragdoll (70), Walrus (70), Human (70), Chopped Bait XLarge (70), Penguin (72).
Human is the highest-coverage bait in the game: 3,466 catches across 90 species on all five maps. Chopped Bait XLarge reaches 97 species, the broadest spread of any bait in the data.
Tier 5 — Top end (score 78-86)
Baby Polar Bear (78), Ivan Ragdoll (80), Moose (80), Egg Creature Ragdoll (80), Stalker Ragdoll (82), Snake Ragdoll (82), Polar Bear Ragdoll (82), Spider Creature Ragdoll (85), Sleeping Troll Ragdoll (86).
These are ragdolls and large animals, not critters you scoop off the ground. They are the baits you save for a Legendary session rather than a farming run.
Where each bait spawns
Bait farming is a route, not a lookup. On the Lake the order that works is: Worms outside the cabin, Cockroaches by the gambling pool, Lizards around the altar and the trees to its left, Frogs on the island between the cabins and around the cabin walls, Spiders inside the second cabin, then bait fish from the trap. Behind the cabin there are two Turtles, the only ones reachable without a boat. Follow the left path for the small pond and its two or three Ducks, then the cave system for Scorpions along the left wall, Crabs around the teleportation portal, and Rats past the pink mushroom.
The maps guide breaks the rest down per map.
Practical bait rules
- Never sell your last Worm stack. It is free and it always catches something.
- Keep one Minnow trap running from day one. Free bait is free score.
- Match the tier to the target, not to the mode. A Troll ragdoll on a Blue Gill run is wasted score.
- Stack before you spend. Beer, day count and totems multiply together — check the totems page before buying a big bait.
